Under the procedural supervision of prosecutors from the Prosecutor General's Office, two company executives were served suspicion notices of embezzlement on an especially large scale (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), the website of the Prosecutor General's Office reports.

According to the investigation, the suspects, having received funds allocated by the Ukrainian MoD to pay for the supply of goods and services for the catering of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, misused them for other purposes through diverting the funds into shadow, uncontrolled circulation.

In addition, in order to artificially increase the cost of goods, business entities purchased food from "fictitious enterprises". By doing so, entrepreneurs caused the state about UAH 120 million in losses.

The involvement of the MoD officials in illegal activities is currently being checked. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine. The Security Service of Ukraine is providing operational support.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
