Aleksandr Lukashenko, who considers himself the president of Belarus, said he is ready to fight alongside Russians "if someone commits aggression against Belarus," according to the Telegram channel Pul Pervogo, which covers Lukashenko's activities.
"I am ready to fight with the Russians from the territory of Belarus in only one case so far: if at least one soldier from there comes to the territory of Belarus to kill my people. If they commit aggression against Belarus, the response will be the most brutal. And the war will take on a completely different character," he said.
Earlier, Lukashenko said that Ukraine had allegedly offered Minsk to sign a non-aggression pact. At the same time, he again accused Kyiv of training "militants and extremists."
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Lukashenko's statement. He emphasized that Ukraine had not planned to attack Belarus before and does not plan to do so now, and considers it important that the country does not enter the shameful war unleashed by Russia.
According to the President of Ukraine, the majority of the population of Belarus does not want to go against Ukrainians with weapons.
"Therefore, of course, we will be very surprised if there is an offensive in this area... by Belarusian troops," the president emphasized.
Thousands of Russian military personnel, including equipment, are currently undergoing training in Belarus.
Last November, the European Parliament recognized Lukashenko as Russia's accomplice in the war against Ukraine.
