Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov has been taken into custody, the Specialised Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) has said.
The SAPO noted that he was detained in the case of the Odesa-based plant Krayan.
On 4 May, a panel of HACC judges granted the motion of the prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office to change Trukhanov's preventive measure.
"Given that the accused did not post UAH 30.866 million bail set by the court, the prosecutor filed a motion with the court to change the measure of restraint from bail to detention with a bail option. The HACC, having heard the arguments of the parties, partially granted the motion and imposed on the accused a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of 60 days with an alternative of UAH 13.420 million bail," the SAPO said.
Pursuant to the decision, Trukhanov was taken into custody in the courtroom.
The High Anti-Corruption Court recently changed the measure of restraint for Trukhanov, who is accused of embezzling UAH 92 million when buying the Krayan plant building. The HACC imposed a bail of UAH 30,866,000 on the suspect.
The NABU and the SAPO suspected the mayor of Odesa and several other local officials of embezzling UAH 185 million from the city budget: the Krayan plant building was purchased for the city hall at an inflated price. Later, the sum of the deal was halved.
In July 2019, the Malynivskyy district court of Odesa acquitted all the defendants in the Krayan case, including the mayor of Odesa. However, the SAPO filed an appeal. In February 2021, the Anti-Corruption Court overturned Trukhanov's acquittal.
