Ukraine needs about 128 fighter jets to gain air superiority and replace its old fleet, stated the spokesman of the Ukrainian Air Forces Yuriy Ihnat, Radio Svoboda reports.
"Ukraine needs 128 fighter jets to replace the old fleet of aircraft - this number is spelled out in the vision of the Air Force," he said.
He noted that if Ukraine receives 42 fighters, it will be possible to create about four aviation brigades.
"It is clear that the war can make its own adjustments, but more than 100 aircraft are necessary to spread them out to different airfields so that they can be used for different challenges and strike at different targets. Both at aircraft and at ground targets and at the enemy's rear," he said.
Ihnat said that F-16s and other Western fighters could change the course of events at the front.
The Netherlands and Denmark will provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets. This will happen when the training of Ukrainian pilots is completed.
