Artem Sachuk, Vice President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation, who enlisted in the Armed Forces during the initial days of the full-scale invasion, lost his life on the front line.

The Ukrainian Chess Federation confirmed the demise of Artem Sachuk, an esteemed chess player and sports candidate, recognized for his contributions as an organizer of numerous national and international competitions.

"Artem Sachuk, a prominent chess player and dedicated volunteer soldier, who served as Vice President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation, fell in the ongoing battle against the Russian invaders," the Ukrainian Chess Federation said.

Originally hailing from Zhytomyr, Sachuk held roles as a project manager at the Reforms Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and was involved in entrepreneurial endeavors before the outbreak of the full-scale war. He previously spearheaded the Zhytomyr Regional Development Agency. Following the invasion, Artem chose to actively participate in the conflict. Throughout his service, he held roles as a platoon commander, instructor, deputy technical officer, acting company commander, and more.

On 7 April, Sachuk was honoured with the "For Military Service to Ukraine" medal for displaying remarkable courage in defending the state's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as reported by the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee.
