The number of ministries of the Ukrainian government is to be reduced by a third. The number of ministers should be 15-16 people, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a press conference.
The reduction will allow the government to be more coordinated and faster and less bureaucratic, he said. He refused to say which ministries would be eliminated, "in order not to stir up trouble".
"We are working on reducing the number of ministries by a third," he said.
Shmyhal added that 20,000 vacancies have already been cut as part of the civil service reform this year.
According to him, work is underway to create a Government Centre that will perform subsidiary administrative functions.
"Ministries should formulate policies, and the Government Centre, in turn, will provide legal, personnel, accounting and other support," the Prime Minister explained.
There are also plans to introduce Diia for civil servants.
