Ukraine will not build new infrastructure for F-16 fighter jets, and is currently adapting existing airfields for them, Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, has told the news telethon.
"Preparation, construction, and adaptation are different things. This must be understood. We are unlikely to be able to afford to build infrastructure from scratch like that of the leading Western countries. Because there are intense hostilities, the enemy will not allow us to do global construction. The airfields are being shelled constantly, including with ballistic missiles," Ihnat said.
According to the spokesman, aircraft parking areas and runways are currently being prepared.
"This is a minimum preparation of runways so that Western aircraft such as F-16s do not have any obstacles to take off and land from our operational airfields. We have a lot of operational airfields, but we will identify the ones from which the F-16s will operate. We are also preparing the landing sites for these aircraft... This is the adaptation, so that we can use these aircraft from our airfields," he added.
