Russia launches over 700 drones and 13 missiles in mass overnight attack on Ukraine, targeting Lutsk in Volyn

On the night of 9 July, Russia attacked Ukraine with 741 air attack vehicles.

This was reported by the command of the Ukrainian Air Force.

Russian military attacked with 728 Shahed-type strike drones and various types of drone simulators from the following directions: Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Orel, Millerovo (Russian Federation); – 7 X-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles from the Engels area of the Saratov Region and the Kursk Region (Russian Federation); – 6 X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from the airspace of the Lipetsk Region (Russian Federation).

The main target of the strike was Volyn, the city of Lutsk.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units and unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces.

According to preliminary data, as of 08:30, air defence forces destroyed 718 Russian air attack vehicles, 303 were shot down by firepower, and 415 were lost due to location:

  • 296 Russian Shahed-type UAVs (other types of drones) were shot down by firepower, 415 were lost/suppressed by electronic warfare;
  • 7 X-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles were shot down.
