Soil was contaminated and oil products leaked into the Dnipro River as a result of the Russian attack on the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant, the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southern District has said.

Experts of the State Environmental Inspectorate inspected the affected areas to determine the environmental damage caused by the Russians.

More than 7,200 sq m of Slavutych Street and 300 sq m of Petro Sahaydachnyy (Borodynska) Street in Zaporizhzhya were contaminated with the waste of destruction.

Inspectors took water and soil samples for laboratory tests.

All the findings will be handed over to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies.

As a result of the Russian attack, there were two direct hits to the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant in Zaporizhzhya. It is not known whether HPP-2 will be restored, as it was badly damaged. HPP-1 is also out of commission. One pillar was hit, and crane beams were damaged.
