Ukraine has had to withdraw American Abrams M1A1 tanks from the frontline because they are no longer protected from Russian drones, The Telegraph reports, citing US officials.

According to them, about five of the 31 tanks have already been damaged. According to Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Christopher Grady, the tanks have been withdrawn from the front line while the US works with the Ukrainians to change their tactics.

"Now there is a way to do it. We will be working with our Ukrainian partners and other partners on the ground to help them think about how they can use this in this changed environment now, where everything is visible at once," he said.

The cost of one Abrams is $10 million. Ukraine has long called for modern tanks. In August, Washington agreed to this, and in September 2023, the first Abrams were delivered.
