Russia is trying to destabilise the situation in Ukraine as part of a disinformation operation and is intimidating Ukrainians by blowing up dams in Kyiv and Kaniv. This was reported by the Disinformation Counteraction Centre.
"Russia continues its attempts to destabilise the situation in Ukraine as part of the disinformation operation Mir (Peace), trying to intimidate Ukrainians with the threat of new terrorist attacks," the statement said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mariya Zakharova said that Ukraine is allegedly preparing to destroy the dams of the Kyiv hydroelectric power station and the Kaniv reservoir to blame Russia.
"With these statements, the Kremlin is trying to cause panic among Ukrainians. At the same time, narratives about the need for "peace at any cost", i.e. de facto surrender, are being thrown into Ukrainian society. The enemy is counting on Ukrainians to be driven by fear and demand concessions to Russia," the CPA added.
"Despite the fact that Zakharova's statement looks like an attempt to provide Russia with an alibi before the attack, Russia does not have the means and capabilities to destroy the dams near Kyiv and Kaniv. It is impossible to destroy these facilities with missile strikes, and the option of sabotage is excluded, as the dams are under heavy security.”
