On 18 July, the Verkhovna Rada supported the draft law 11256-2 on increasing the excise tax on fuel.
This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak and MP Iryna Herashchenko.
"The Parliament has passed the draft law 11256-2 on increasing the excise tax on fuel. The amendment (No. 267) on gas was also supported," he wrote in a telegram. The bill was supported by 231 MPs in total.
The MP added that the price of petrol and diesel fuel would increase by UAH 1.66 per litre in September.
The changes include:
- Defining the term "intermediate products" in accordance with the EEC Council Directive and setting the excise tax rate at UAH 12.23 per 1 litre.
- Establishment of new excise tax rates on fuel that will reach the minimum level stipulated by the EU Council Directive, with a gradual increase by 2028.
- Clarification of the term "weighted average retail price of cigarettes" to include taxes.

It was proposed to increase excise taxes on all types of fuel: petrol, diesel and automotive gas. But not immediately - the process will take four years. It will start in the summer and end by the end of 2027.
