In the morning, there were new reports from the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk on the investigation into the murder of Iryna Farion.

This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the President, all available surveillance cameras are currently being used, witnesses are being interviewed, and the territory of several districts is being examined. All versions are being investigated, including the one leading to Russia.

‘All the necessary forces of the National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine are involved in the search for the offender. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Deputy Prosecutors General and heads of the National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine are on the spot in Lviv,’ the Head of State said.

The President thanked everyone who helps the investigation.

‘My condolences to the family and all the loved ones of Iryna Farion,’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.

  • On Friday, 19 July, an attempt was made on the life of a well-known linguist, Iryna Farion, on Masaryk Street in Lviv.
  • The Lviv Regional State Administration and the mayor's office confirmed that the attempt was made on Iryna Farion.
  • The First Medical Association, where Iryna Farion was taken, commented that ‘at around 8 p.m., a woman with a gunshot wound was admitted to St Panteleimon's Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv. She is currently in intensive care. Her condition is serious.’
  • President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the attempted assassination of Iryna Farion: ‘All the necessary forces of the National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine are involved to establish the circumstances of this crime.’
  • The press service of the First Medical Association of Lviv reported that Iryna Farion had died.
  • Earlier, the head of the anaesthesia service, Nataliya Matolinets, said that the victim had undergone primary surgery on her head wound and was in critical condition.
  • In turn, the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the attack on Irina Farion was classified as premeditated murder, and the attacker faces up to 15 years in prison.
