Ukraine will receive €100 million from the EU to reconstruct its electricity transmission system, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports

The funds are provided by the European Union under the Ukraine Investment Facility (UIF) programme, which is part of the Ukraine Facility plan, and will be used to support the project ‘Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Ukraine's Electricity Transmission Infrastructure II’.

This grant is one of the first agreements signed under the auspices of the UIF programme and is a significant step towards the reconstruction of Ukraine's electricity transmission system. The relevant agreements were signed on 18 July by Ukrenergo CEO Volodymyr Kudrytskyy and Head of the KfW Representative Office in Ukraine Lorenz Gessner in the presence of Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak and Energy Project Coordinator at the EU Delegation to Ukraine Ulyana Rudnytska.
‘Russia cannot win on the battlefield, so it is destroying our energy infrastructure. Massive hostile attacks have led to significant losses of both generating capacity and transmission system facilities. Our priorities include not only the restoration of lines and substations, but also the construction of new transmission system infrastructure using modern and energy-efficient technologies. We are grateful to the European Union and our partners from KfW for the relevant assistance that will be used for these purposes,’ said Roman Andarak.

‘Ensuring a stable supply of electricity to Ukrainians is a top priority for the European Union. To achieve this goal, we are using all available channels to provide support. Preserving every megawatt in the power system is critical, and the European Union is pleased to join the modernisation and rebuilding of Ukraine's energy infrastructure,' said Ulyana Rudnytska.

‘The reconstruction, rehabilitation and expansion of the electricity infrastructure is crucial for Ukraine's recovery and economic development. By improving energy efficiency and integrating the Ukrainian power system into the European grid, electricity supplies will be stabilised. At the same time, the conditions for economic activity and everyday life of Ukrainians across the country will improve,’ said Lorenz Gassner.

The project includes reconstruction, repair, rehabilitation and replacement of destroyed and/or damaged parts of Ukraine's electricity transmission infrastructure, equipment, construction of new substations and power lines using modern and energy-efficient technologies, as well as measures to physically protect electricity infrastructure elements.
