Romania is checking information about the fall of "possible objects" on its territory during the Russian attack on the Izmayil district of Odesa Region.

The Romanian Ministry of Defence reported that at 2:19 a.m. local time, two F-16s took to the skies at night. The fighters were monitoring the situation in the air.

"The two fighter jets returned to the base at around 4:20 a.m.," the statement said.

During the attack, the population of Tulcea County was alerted to the danger.

"The Ministry of National Defence has ordered an investigation near Plaura to search for possible objects that fell on the national territory, the search will continue throughout the day," the Romanian defence ministry added.

  • On the night of 24 July, Russia attacked Ukraine with 23 Shahed attack drones. Air defences shot down 17 drones, most of them in Odesa Region. In the Danube area, Russians attacked port infrastructure. A five-storey residential building was damaged, and there are wounded.
  • During Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Russian drones have repeatedly flown into the territory of Romania, a NATO country. In December of this year, the Alliance said that it saw no threat from the fall of the Shahed on Romanian territory.
