Today, 26 July, the European Union will transfer €1.5bn of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine.
This was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
‘The EU supports Ukraine. Today, we are transferring €1.5 billion in proceeds from frozen Russian assets,’ she wrote on social media platform X.
She also added that the money will be used for the defence and reconstruction of Ukraine.
‘There is no better symbol or use of the Kremlin's money than to make Ukraine and the whole of Europe a safer place to live,’ the European Commission President added.
