The death toll from yesterday's Russian attack on Zaporizhzhya has risen to 9, including a one-year-old boy. 42 people were injured. The head of the regional administration later reported a tenth victim. The body of another deceased resident of the regional centre was recovered from the rubble of a destroyed house. More than 130 houses were destroyed.
A day of mourning was declared in the city today.
"15 victims of the enemy shelling are in medical institutions in Zaporizhzhya. A 5-year-old boy is in extremely serious condition. He underwent surgery and is on a lung ventilator. The condition of four other people, including two medical workers, is assessed by doctors as serious," the RMA said.
The Prosecutor General's Office added that Russian military carried out six air strikes on Zaporizhzhya and Zaporizhzhya district. One of the munitions destroyed a multi-storey building. Other strikes hit private sectors of the city's residential areas, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure. Private houses were destroyed. Local residents' cars were damaged.
People may be trapped under the rubble. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
