Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reports a Russian attack using guided aerial bombs. As of 7 a.m., 25 people were reported wounded, including a baby. According to preliminary data from law enforcement, Russians struck with three FAB-250/500s.
The strikes targeted historic buildings in the centre of Kharkiv, as well as the Saltiv district. A 12-storey residential building was damaged as a result of the hit, and several floors were destroyed.
The entrance of the building from the 1st to the 3rd floor was partially destroyed, said Oleh Synyehubov, head of the Regional Military Administration. Residential buildings nearby, five cars and the exits of the metro station were damaged.
"25 people were injured, five of them were hospitalised, their condition is moderate to light. We evacuated 30 people, including 4 children," said Oleh Synyehubov.
Another shell hit near a residential area in the central part of the city. At least 6 multi-storey buildings, shops, trade pavilions, cars and metro station exits were damaged. There were no casualties.
The police reported that a three-month-old baby was among the injured.
"At least 9 of the injured are in moderate condition. The youngest victim is a three-month-old child, who received medical assistance on the spot. The police have not received any information about missing persons," said the head of the regional police, Serhiy Bolvinov.
Terekhov later provided details of the damage caused by the strike:
Saltiv district: a 12-storey residential building was hit. The first three floors of one of the entrances were partially destroyed. 25 people were injured, including one three-month-old baby. The surrounding houses and cars parked in the yard were damaged.
The hit took place near a children's supermarket in the city centre. "The building itself and the surrounding area were badly damaged. The metro station, which is literally under the site of the explosion, survived, but all the underground exits were damaged - two of them very badly. There was no information about injuries," the mayor said.
The hit near the Sukhyy Fountain in the ground of the square between the university buildings. "The windows in the State Industrial University were smashed. The fountain itself remained unharmed. The New Year's decorations, which were installed near it just yesterday, were partially damaged," the mayor said.
