To produce the Oreshnik ballistic missile, Russians use equipment from Western countries, the Financial Times reports, citing an announcement by a Russian defence concern and engineering institute.
In 2024, eight Chinese companies presented 12 models of computer numerical control (CNC) devices at a major Russian exhibition. According to an analysis by the Economic Security Council of Ukraine, 11 of these models were equipped with Japanese or German-made controllers.
The publication notes that the Moscow Institute of Heat Engineering, Suzirya and Titan-Barricades are developing the Oreshnik using equipment from the Japanese company Fanuc and German Siemens and Haidenhain. These companies produce control systems for CNC machines.
Despite the fact that Ukraine's partners in countering Russian aggression declare one of their priorities to stop supplying equipment for such machines to Russia, the aggressor country continues to receive it.
The publication notes that while the Kremlin purchases a large number of high-precision metalworking machines from China, their control systems continue to be supplied from the West.
This year alone, German Haidenhain has supplied about $3 million worth of such equipment to Russia.
