On 15 January, Poland announced a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. This is stated on the Polish government website and reported by Reuters.

"The Government Information Centre announces that on 15 January, Prime Minister Donald Tusk will meet with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy," the statement said.

After the meeting, the politicians will hold a press conference.

According to Reuters, one of the topics of the visit is a "breakthrough" in the situation around the Volyn tragedy.

"There are a lot of topics (to discuss), including of course exhumations. What interests us is the way these decisions (about exhumations) are carried out," a Polish government official told the publication.

  • Recently, Ukraine and Poland exchanged lists of places to search for and exhume the remains of victims of mutual historical conflicts.
  • Before that, Tusk announced that Ukraine had allowed the first exhumations of victims of the Volyn tragedy.
  • Later, Ukraine allowed the first exhumation of the remains of victims of the Volyn tragedy in April in the village of Puzhnyky in Ternopil region, which was burned to the ground in 1945.
  • In November, Sibiga agreed with Tusk to exhume the victims of the Volyn tragedy.
  • The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance (UINR), Anton Drobovych, said in October that he had appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers to allocate at least UAH 1 million for a search programme, including at the request of Polish citizens.
