President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law extending the period for voluntary return after absent without leave (AWOL) and adding 17-year-olds to the register of conscripts.
According to the press service of the Verkhovna Rada, the president signed a law according to which every year from 1 January to 31 July, young men who turn 17 are registered as conscripts with their information entered into the Unified State Register of Conscripts, Persons Liable for Military Service and Reservists:
- via an electronic cabinet;
- personal arrival at the Territorial Center of Recruitment and Social Support.
Citizens are required to undergo a medical examination before taking part in practical classes of basic military training.
In addition, the law extends until 1 March the possibility of registering servicemen who have committed AWOL and who have voluntarily arrived at military units.
For such persons, the commander shall, within 72 hours, extend their military service and contract, as well as resume the payment of cash and the provision of food, clothing and other types of support.
Women who are fit for military service and who have expressed a desire to perform basic military service are registered with the military register of conscripts voluntarily.
