On 15 January, Russia launched a massive air attack against Ukraine. The Air Force warned of a missile threat at around 5:53 a.m.

As of 8 a.m., the alert covered all of Ukraine, and the shelling began around 8:15 a.m. According to the Air Force, the Russian military used various types of missiles, including cruise and ballistic missiles.

The Russians directed a significant number of missiles toward western Ukraine, with the military highlighting dangers to Stryy, Lviv, and Kolomyya. Other Regions, including Sumy, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, and Kharkiv Regions, also faced threats.

Preventive power cuts were implemented across Ukraine in response to the attack. Ukrenergo reported emergency power outages in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad Regions.

  • In 2024, Russia conducted 13 massive attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, causing far greater damage than in previous years.
