The NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) was officially opened in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, the press service of the Ministry of Defence reports

According to Serhiy Boyev, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration, JATEC will primarily address specific challenges.

The opening of the first-ever joint institution between Ukraine and NATO was attended by Olha Stefanishyna, Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine and Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Radmila Šekerinska, NATO Deputy Secretary General, Admiral Pierre Vandier, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Poland.

JATEC will contribute to enhancing the interoperability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and NATO, as it is the first joint structure of Ukraine and the Alliance directly subordinated to NATO's Strategic Transformation Command.

JATEC will focus on identifying, analysing and implementing the lessons of Russia's war against Ukraine into NATO's strategies, policies and operations.

"This has played and will continue to play a key role in supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and ensuring long-term regional stability," said Colonel Valeriy Vyshnivskyy, Programme Implementation Director of the Joint Centre.

  • The decision to establish the Centre was made in February last year, and a few months later, Ukrainian representatives were appointed to the team that will create it.
  • The Centre's work is aimed at achieving full interoperability between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and NATO forces.
  • In addition, last summer, at the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C., it was decided to establish the NSATU, a structure to provide assistance and training to Ukraine.
