US President Donald Trump is currently on the phone with Vladimir Putin in the Oval Office.
This was announced by Presidential Assistant and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Dan Scavino.
‘President Trump has been in the Oval Office speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin since 10:00 a.m. (16:00 Kyiv time). The call is going well and is still ongoing,’ Scavino wrote on social media platform X.
Earlier, CNN reported that US Vice President J.D. Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had arrived at the White House to take part in the conversation.
The conversation takes place exactly a week after the meeting between the US and Ukrainian delegations in Jeddah, which Trump announced on 12 March, but Moscow has not yet given an official response to the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire along the entire front line. However, both Putin and lower-level officials have shown their unwillingness to engage in the peace process, prolonging the war and putting forward their own ultimatums.
In particular, Putin demanded the surrender of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk Region. He also demanded that Ukraine stop receiving arms aid and stop mobilising.
