NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has signed a contract for the supply of another 100 million cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with Polish company ORLEN, one of the largest oil corporations in Central and Eastern Europe.
The fuel will come from a shipment of US LNG. After regasification, the gas will be transported to the Polish-Ukrainian border, the company's press service reports.
This is the second fuel supply contract signed under the Memorandum of Understanding between the companies. The first one provided for the same volume.
"Ensuring stable gas supplies remains our priority. Cooperation with ORLEN allows Ukraine to expand its LNG import capabilities and improve energy security. We continue to work on diversifying our supply sources to ensure the reliability and availability of gas for the country. This is especially important in the context of constant Russian attacks on our gas infrastructure," said Roman Chumak, CEO of Naftogaz Group.
The gas will be delivered to Ukraine in April. It will be used to create a strategic fuel reserve for the next heating season.
