The Ukrainian army is already receiving fibre-optic drones with a 20-kilometre-long cable, which equates its capabilities with those of Russia. Chief of Defence Oleksandr Syrskyy said this in an interview with lb.ua.
He expressed hope that Ukraine will be able to significantly increase the number of fibre-optic FPVs in two to three months. This, in his opinion, will practically deprive the occupiers of their current advantages.
"And, of course, the build-up of ground drones. There are a lot of them being produced now. Remotely piloted modules. All of them have elements of artificial intelligence, that is, they are able to detect targets on their own, identify them, and are able to fire in automatic or semi-automatic mode," he said.
Fibre-optic drones are a recent development that the occupying army began using in the war last year. This method allows the drones to be independent of electronic warfare. The disadvantage is the relatively short range, limited by the length of the cable.
Syrskyy stressed that Ukraine is committed to developing high-tech weapons.
"We continue to expand in this direction, increasing the number, scale and capabilities of deepstrike, or long-range strike, and have already passed the 1,700 kilometre mark. This is on the one hand," he said.
In addition to increasing the production of drones, the production of ammunition is also growing. The support of partners remains key for Ukraine, but the state must also rely on its own strength. There have already been successes in the production of artillery, electronic warfare and various models of drones.
