Efforts are ongoing to restore gas supplies in Cherkasy Region after critical civilian infrastructure was damaged in a recent Shahed drone attack.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his latest address.
“This also happened against the backdrop of the global demand for Russia to end this war and ensure silence. In other words, each passing day is further proof that Russia must be subjected to serious pressure — pressure strong enough to force it to end the war, a war that only Russia wants,” the President of Ukraine stated.
He emphasised that Ukraine did not desire a single moment of this war and is prepared to work as swiftly as possible with all partners capable of facilitating peace and guaranteeing security.
“Back on 11 March, we responded positively to the American proposal for complete silence. We also made a bilateral offer to Russia — to cease strikes on at least civilian targets, at the very least. Furthermore, we proposed a full ceasefire extended for 30 days during the Easter period,” President Zelenskyy recalled.
The Head of State highlighted Russia’s manipulative stance in proposing to wait until 8 May to initiate a ceasefire in order to secure quiet during the Victory Day parade.
“We value people’s lives — not parades. That is why we believe, as the world believes, that there is no justification for delaying until 8 May. A ceasefire must not serve as a short pause before resuming violence. What is needed is an immediate, complete and unconditional ceasefire, guaranteed and sustained for at least 30 days. This is what can provide a foundation for genuine diplomacy. We reiterate our proposal. The American proposal also stands. Russia knows what needs to be done and how to respond — a ceasefire is realistic. And we believe that international pressure, particularly from the United States of America, can compel Russia to give the appropriate response,” the President affirmed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted that the agreement on economic partnership with the United States has become significantly stronger and more balanced — offering potential mutual benefit for both Ukraine and America.
