As of early July, it is known that Russians have executed 268 Ukrainian prisoners of war. The executions may be taking place on the orders of the Russian Federation's top military leadership.

This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada's Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets during a press conference marking the third anniversary of his tenure, Ukrinform reports.

‘According to our data, as of today, an investigation is underway into the execution of 268 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers. And we see that this figure has increased dramatically in the last year,’ Lubinets said.

Lubinets emphasises that executions cannot take place on Russian territory without systematic approval from the top leadership.

‘We understand that this attitude towards Ukrainian prisoners of war is accepted at the very top, so to speak. Unfortunately, we see this in reality,’ he added.
