Ukrainian choreographer and dancer Kostyantyn Koval is working on Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov’s new production of Hamlet. Kostyantyn has publicly posted a video from the project’s rehearsals on his Facebook page.
However, the Ukrainian choreographer also participated in the UPROOTED short film project. This film was released by UNHCR on the eve of World Refugee Day on 20 June 2022. Koval is one of the authors of the script/concept, along with directors Andzej Gavriss and Rick Dodds. He was the choreographer of the film and was responsible for the movement, the concept of the movements and, likely, for working with the performers. The film depicted how people forced to leave their homes because of the war experience post-traumatic stress.
But in 2024, Kostyantyn Koval was already involved in another collaboration with Russians when, together with two other Ukrainian choreographers and dancers, Dmytro Zhuk and Yuriy Hurych, he took part in the show Drama Queen in Cyprus, starring the well-known Russian television presenter Katerina Varnava.
Kostyantyn Koval lives abroad, and his position remains uncommented.
