Russia has launched into orbit a second batch of Rassvet satellites which, the occupiers plan, are to perform Starlink-like functions.
President of Ukraine adviser on the development of technological areas of defense Serhiy Beskrestnov said this on Telegram.
At present, about 40 such satellites are in orbit. They have not yet taken up the correct positions within the “orbital constellation,” but this process will not take long.
“To begin using the Rassvet satelite in any meaningful way for military purposes, the adversary needs to launch at least several hundred satellites,” the presidential adviser explained.
According to Flash, SpaceX currently has more than 15,000 satellites, OneWeb has 600–700, and Amazon Leo has 400–500.
What is known about the Rassvet satellites?
- In late May, Flash reported on the launch of the first batch of Russian Rassvet satellites into orbit.
- Beskrestnov stressed that even then Russian forces could use these satellites for military purposes.
- A satellite can provide high-speed data transmission for 6–10 minutes while passing over a location. In theory, Flash said, the Russians could plan an attack during the satellites’ overflight, but doing so is very difficult.
