Yesterday, Russians attacked a civilian vessel carrying Ukrainian wheat. A Ukrainian sailor was killed and three people were injured.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, and Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper wrote about it on Telegram.
“The enemy continues relentlessly to attack civilian vessels in the Black Sea. This time, a commercial bulk carrier flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau and loaded with Ukrainian wheat was hit. As a result of the attack, the hull was damaged and a fire broke out on board. Sadly, one person was killed and three others were injured. The crew has been evacuated to shore. All necessary assistance is being provided to the injured,” Kiper wrote.
The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said that for more than a month Russia has been striking Ukraine’s port infrastructure and civilian merchant vessels almost daily, including those in the waters of Ukrainian ports and those traveling via the Ukrainian maritime corridor.
On the evening of 5 August, the civilian vessel MERA QUEEN, flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau, came under attack. The deceased was a crew member and a citizen of Ukraine. The remaining sailors were taken ashore.
As of 06:00 on 6 August, the vessel is moored at the berth. Specialists are carrying out initial work to contain the consequences of the strike and stabilize its technical condition.
