President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is ready to travel to Miami for the G20 leaders’ summit in December if Russia’s president Vladimir Putin attends in person.
He said this in response to a question from a DW correspondent.
“Yes, of course. We have to come. We have to meet, talk and make decisions,” Zelenskyy said.
The President stressed that in a possible meeting with Putin, what would matter to him would not be statements or words, but a concrete result.
“It’s not about words. What I say to him or what he wants to say to me doesn’t matter. The result is what matters,” Zelenskyy noted.
- Zelenskyy and Putin have not met in person since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
- The Kremlin has not yet said whether Putin plans to attend the G20 summit in Miami in person. The Russian dictator last attended a “Group of Twenty” summit in person in 2019.
- Meanwhile, last month the United States invited Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov to a G20 meeting in North Carolina. The decision sparked discontent among European officials.
