MBDA has successfully carried out a test launch of the new TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile being developed for the Italian Navy, Militarnyi reports.
During the trials, the missile spent around 20 minutes in controlled cruise flight. This made it possible to confirm its stated range, MBDA said.
The company noted that the successful test paves the way for completing development of the missile and moving to serial production. The first TESEO MK2/E missiles are expected to enter service with the Italian fleet in 2028.
Development of the missile began in 2021 after a contract was signed with Italy’s National Directorate of Naval Armaments. In 2025, the parties signed an agreement on its serial production.
TESEO MK2/E is a new generation of the TESEO missile family, also known as OTOMAT. The missile is being developed for PPA multi-purpose ships, future DDX destroyers, FREMM-class frigates and Orizzonte-class destroyers. The system will also be integrated on the new FREMM EVO frigates, including for potential deliveries to foreign customers.
The missile has received a new radar seeker with an active electronically scanned array (AESA).
TESEO MK2/E can strike naval and land targets at ranges of more than 350 km. One of its features is the ability to adjust its flight path in real time via a satellite communications link.
