Members of the Estonian parliament have submitted a draft statement in support of Ukraine.
The document, titled «For Ukraine’s Victory and Ensuring Europe’s Security», was submitted by the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, ERR reports.
The committee will consider the initiative on 17 September, after which a vote will take place.
The draft statement describes Ukraine’s victory and Russia’s defeat as a necessary condition for lasting peace in Europe. MPs urge allies to prioritise the supply of air defence systems and missiles, ensure a steady flow of military equipment, and prepare resources for Ukraine ahead of the coming winter. It also proposes allocating Ukraine at least 0.25% of GDP each year in military and financial assistance, as well as developing joint production of weapons, drones and electronic warfare capabilities.
The document also calls for stronger support for Ukrainian intelligence, the sharing of satellite imagery, and increased sanctions pressure on Russia, including by restricting exports of its energy resources.
Estonian MPs condemned Russia’s intention to hold State Duma elections on 20 September in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and urged that the results not be recognised. In addition, the draft reaffirms support for Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the EU, stresses the importance of domestic reforms, and backs the creation of a special international tribunal to hold the aggressor to account.
