A fire broke out in an academic building at Rivne State University for the Humanities as a result of a Russian attack. The premises of the Faculty of Musical Arts were almost completely gutted by fire.

This was reported by the head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science, Andriy Butenko.

The fire has already been extinguished and debris clearance is currently under way.

According to the university, students were in shelters during the attack, but there were casualties among administrative staff. The damaged building is unfit for teaching and requires reconstruction.

The blast wave also damaged neighbouring academic buildings, including blowing out windows. The university is considering switching to online learning until the end of the week.

“Going forward, the organisation of the educational process will be determined with regard to the available premises and safe locations,” the minister explained.
