Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has detained a Ukrainian citizen in connection with the arson attack on a Starlink ground station in the Mazovian Voivodeship.

The man became the third suspect in this sabotage case carried out for the benefit of a foreign intelligence service, RMF24 reports.

According to investigators, the detainee carried out reconnaissance of the site before it was set on fire. Officers from the Polish security service established that, before the task was carried out, the person who commissioned it vetted the perpetrator. On the eve of the arson, the man took photos and videos, which he sent via a messenger app, after which he received a direct instruction to examine the station’s grounds and its security system.

Investigators have charged the detainee; he is currently being held in custody.

The alleged arsonists — two Turkish citizens — have already been detained in Germany on the basis of a European arrest warrant. On the same evening the fire occurred, a police patrol checked their documents near the scene but let them go, as the incident was then considered an ordinary accident. In the coming weeks, the detainees will be extradited to Poland. In addition, two more accomplices were detained in Germany for helping the saboteurs with transport and logistics.

  • The arson attacks in Poland took place in late September. The Polish prosecutor’s office is officially investigating a version involving the Russian security services.
  • In recent days, at a secret facility near Sofia, two masked men deliberately set fire to 11 of 17 Starlink communications antennas.
