Quantum Systems Pushes Apex Recordhunter Drone to 777 km/h

German company Quantum Systems has reported that its experimental electric unmanned aircraft, the Apex Recordhunter, reached a speed of 777 km/h during tests. The company announced the test results on LinkedIn.

Quantum Systems CEO Florian Seibel clarified that the first high-speed pass took place into a headwind of 15 km/h. During the next stage, which was intended to complete the official record attempt, the drone’s battery caught fire.

The company stresses that the 777 km/h figure is not yet an officially confirmed record. To set it, a second high-speed pass must be carried out in the opposite direction, after which the results can be used to validate the record.

“This was the first stage of the record attempt. An official record requires a second pass in the opposite direction,” Quantum Systems said.

According to the company, the flight was monitored by independent experts, and the speed readings were verified using GPS data and onboard flight recorder logs.

The experimental aircraft was built by the N3XT team working at Quantum Systems. Its development took about a year. The drone is intended to test technologies that could be used in future high-speed systems.

The previous testing phase took place in June 2026. At that time, the Apex Recordhunter was accelerated to 699 km/h in level flight.

Quantum Systems also works with Ukrainian drone manufacturers. In April 2024, Quantum Systems officially opened a drone manufacturing facility in Ukraine. In 2025, Quantum Systems entered into a strategic partnership with the Ukrainian defence technology company Frontline Robotics and acquired a 10% stake in it.

At the end of 2025, the companies set up a joint venture, Quantum Frontline Industries, as part of the Build with Ukraine initiative. The venture organised production of the Ukrainian drones “Lens” and “Zoom” in Germany. Quantum Systems provides the manufacturing infrastructure and operational processes, while Frontline Robotics supplies licensed designs, trains staff, and supports the product lifecycle. The drones produced are intended for the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
