Germany’s armed forces have, for the first time, raised the threat level of Russian sabotage against their troops to “significant”, the second-highest danger rating.
This is according to internal Bundeswehr documents obtained by Sueddeutsche Zeitung, European Pravda reports, citing European Pravda.
In the report, intelligence warns of an immediate threat of Russian hybrid attacks involving armed drones. Experts note that Russia has crossed a red line and is demonstrating a willingness to strike targets in Germany.
The military reassessed the security situation after several incidents. In early August, there was a failed attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport using a drone carrying explosives, and later a similar aircraft was found near a key air base in Wunstorf. The country’s government blamed Russia for these attempted attacks.
Analysts say the main aim of such actions by the Russians is to destabilise the situation and weaken political and public support for Ukraine in Germany. Experts also expect the situation to worsen further in the near future.
