On Wednesday, 21 October, drone wreckage was found in Romania’s Buzău County, including the fuselage and part of the engine. Law enforcement officers are currently working to establish its origin.
This was reported by Digi24.
The debris was discovered by a local resident in a field near the village of Moşeşti.
"The young man who found the debris in the field called me, and later contacted the 112 emergency service. As far as I know, firefighters have already arrived in the commune and are heading to the indicated location... I cannot say exactly when this incident may have happened. We often hear loud explosions and the sounds of aircraft, so I cannot say for certain," the head of the commune said.
According to the county prefect, the fuselage and part of the engine were found at the site. Rescuers, police, the gendarmerie and specialists from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) are currently working there.
"Investigative actions are currently under way to establish the origin of this piece of military equipment," he noted.
The outlet suggests the debris may belong to a drone that fell into a field several days ago and was not detected by Romanian radar. At the same time, Dimian was unable to confirm that the debris had been at the site for exactly that long.
He said the search area is planned to be significantly expanded.
"The search area will be significantly expanded—far beyond what we can see behind us right now. This has happened before: then the search area increased from a few thousand square metres to several hectares... That is the situation; these are the times we live in. We are on the border with a war. It seems that because of this conflict, certain aircraft sometimes deviate from their course and ultimately land or crash where, so to speak, such things definitely should not be happening," the prefect added.
Also on the morning of 21 October, radar systems of Romania’s Ministry of Defence detected a group of aerial targets north-east of the Ukrainian city of Vylkove. At 03:34, an air-raid alert was declared in the northern and eastern parts of Tulcea County.
As no violation of Romania’s airspace was recorded, the alert was cancelled at 04:02.
- On the evening of 17 October, Romanian F-16 fighter jets shot down two drones that violated the country’s airspace over the Black Sea. Both targets were destroyed over Romania’s territorial waters.
