Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with Estonia’s newly elected President Yulle Madise and congratulated her on taking office.

The head of state reported this on his social media.

Zelenskyy thanked her for signals of support for Ukraine and noted that Estonia would continue to help it in various areas. According to him, the Estonian side is also closely following diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace.

During the conversation, the President of Ukraine spoke about the details of the talks in Oslo and communication with the US side following their meeting in Russia.

"There is an agreement to hold a trilateral meeting at team level as early as November, and it is important that the meeting is not postponed. Ukraine is ready for talks at any time, and our position is: the sooner the conversation begins, the better," Zelenskyy said.

He also stressed the importance of Europe’s participation in the negotiating process. "In all formats that can deliver real solutions, Europe must have a voice," the President emphasised.

Separately, the sides discussed the consequences of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and railways.

According to Zelenskyy, Russia is deliberately trying to destroy Ukrainian locomotives. Therefore, support aimed at increasing the amount of relevant rolling stock would be useful for Ukraine.

Talks on Ending the War in Ukraine: What We Know

On 20 October, a meeting took place in Oslo between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. European governments, meanwhile, are discussing the possibility of appointing a representative who would hold direct talks with the President of Russia on ending the war in Ukraine. Among the most likely potential candidates are Finnish President Alexander Stubb and President of the European Council António Costa.
