Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova has presented the project Performance as part of the 5th Jeju Biennale in South Korea. She announced this on her Instagram page.

The project began back in 2015, and the sixth iteration is now being shown in Korea. Performance has taken the form of an installation inside the former Megabox cinema at the Jeju art platform.

Portraits from the Social Museum and the artist’s private collection were placed on the audience seats, turning them into a kind of audience. Under the gaze of these painted spectators, exhibition visitors themselves become performers, and their gestures and movements turn into a performance.

The exhibition also includes works created during a collaborative drawing workshop. As part of it, Zhanna Kadyrova made portraits of Ukrainian artists who joined the Armed Forces following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Jeju Biennale runs in South Korea from 25 August to 15 November. The exhibition brings together 69 artists and art collectives from more than 20 countries worldwide.
