US President Donald Trump is not considering dismissing Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Trump told journalists this on 4 November, European Pravda reports, citing The Wall Street Journal.
“No, I think he is doing a very good job,” the American President said.
In Trump’s view, Hegseth would be “very popular” if he were appointed to the Senate from the state of Tennessee.
- Earlier, CBS News, citing sources, wrote that the US President is discussing with his advisers the possible dismissal of Hegseth after the Republicans’ defeat in the midterm elections.
- Some White House aides predict that part of the blame for the Republican Party’s electoral defeat will also be placed on the head of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine.
- These military leaders played a key role in advising Trump on the war with Iran. Vice President J.D. Vance called the military conflict the main reason for the party’s defeat in the midterm elections.
