President Petro Poroshenko, the runner-up of the first round of the presidential election, has called on frontrunner and comedian Volodymyr Zelenskyy to “man up” and take part in a public debate without any additional conditions.
He said this in a video address posted in social media in the early hours of 5 April.
The president said that a debate is not a scary thing.
“In my life, I have accepted challenges on more than one occasion. Not only from political opponents but from strong enemies, I looked them in the eye and did not turn away. That is what the president and the supreme commander-in-chief should be like,” he said.
Poroshenko went on: “Volodymyr Oleksandrovych, do not look for reasons and set no conditions. Use no cover-up. This is not nice. Man up. Come and join the debate.”
