Navalny's case
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has condemned the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny with the Novichok nerve agent as an "inhumane reprisal". The Foreign Ministry called on the international community to introduce sanctions against Russia.
Privatbank's case
Kyiv's Pecherskyy district court has ruled that nationalized Privatbank should pay the Surkis brothers $350m under the deposit agreements terminated in December 2016. The Finance Ministry said that it would appeal the ruling. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the government considers the ruling to be taken in violation of procedural law and therefore it would be appealed.
Leros's case
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented of MP Geo Leros's expulsion from his party faction and his critical remarks. "I issue no orders, I do not react to the bribe-takers and traitors of this country and I do not care what party they are from," he said.
Donbas
The trilateral contact group on Donbas has agreed a framework decision on nine clearance in Donbas, the presidential office has said. In particular, the group agreed 19 priority areas for mine clearance. It also agreed "in principle" four more areas for the disengagement of troops and forces.
Russia-backed militants opened random fire with grenade launchers near Maryinka. The Ukrainian army did not return fire.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group, Leonid Kravchuk, has said that the delegation will consider a possible expulsion of Vitold Fokin from its ranks over his controversial remarks. Kravchuk added that it was not his decision but the president's to invite Fokin in the first place.
Forest fires
Police are investigating massive forest fires in Kharkiv Region. According to the State Emergencies Service, the area under fire in Donbas is around 400 hectares. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened an emergency meeting with the concerned agencies and demanded full updates on the situation and quick response to the emergency.
Coronavirus
By the morning of 2 September, Ukraine has registered 2,495 new Covid-19 infections. The total count has now reached 125,798 cases, including 2,656a lethal ones.
According to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov, 44% of hospital beds allocated to coronavirus patients have been taken by now.
Fatherland leader Yuliya Tymoshenko, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus, said that the crisis stage is over after two weeks and thanked the people who helped her.
Incidents
Servant of the People MP Anton Polyakov, who got earlier expelled from the parliamentary faction, got beaten this morning outside a cafe in Kyiv.
A first-year student of the Zhytomyr Military Institute died on 1 September, presumably due to mishandling of weapons. According to other suggestions, he may have committed a suicide.
