Coronavirus

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said that any willing Ukrainian will be able to get vaccinated from the coronavirus in 2021. He noted that the vaccination of servicemen in Luhansk Region began on 27 February.

Another Ukrainian serviceman died of the coronavirus, bringing the total death toll in the army to 46, the Medical Forces Command has said. He was treated in the central city clinic in Uzhhorod.

The second person affected by the fire in Chernivtsi's city hospital No 1 on 27 February died, the State Emergencies Service has said.

As of 1 March, Chernivtsi Region will move into the red coronavirus zone.

On the morning of 28 February, Ukraine reported 5,833 new Covid-19 cases, including 89 deaths.

Ninety more people got vaccinated on 27 February: 50 in Donetsk Region, 20 in Luhansk Region and 20 in Kherson Region. A total of 3,141 Ukrainians have received the first dose of the vaccine so far.

Rally in support of Sternenko

Several thousand people took part in a rally in Kyiv in support of activist Serhiy Sternenko, who was sentenced for over seven years in an abduction case. Protesting outside the presidential office and the Prosecutor-General's Office, they demanded the release of Sternenko, musician Andriy Antonenko, as well as judiciary reform. If their demands are not met, they are planning to hold another protest on 9 March.

Donbas

Russia-backed militants breached the truce nine times on 27 February, including by using banned 120-mm and 82-mm mortars, the Joint Forces Operation HQ has said. A Ukrainian serviceman was wounded by a POM-2 anti-personnel fragmentation landmine.

Eleven Ukrainian servicemen were reported wounded or injured on 26 February.

Media

Former Prosecutor-General Yuriy Lutsenko will have his own political show on 5 Kanal TV associated with ex-President Petro Poroshenko, Detector Media has learnt from the channel's director-general, Volodymyr Mzhelskyy. Lutsenko will join the channel in March.

Crime

A crowd of young people in Dnipro shot at Stepova agricultural holding director Artur Rysin and his wife in the early hours of 28 February, Censor.net has quoted its sources as saying. One of the 14 detained attackers is a son of well-known businessman Oleksandr Petrovskyy, Yermak.
