Scoop of the day: SBU detains another suspect in PMC case

Security

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a former second commander of the Donbas battalion, Anatoliy Vynohrodskyy, who is also mentioned in ex-MP Semen Semenchenko's case concerning the creation of a private military company. Vynohrodskyy is suspected of setting up Donbass Battalion Corporation together with Semenchenko. He was placed under house arrest.

Voice party

Ten MPs of the Voice party faction have issued a statement, demanding that the party convene an extraordinary meeting to re-elect the party's leadership which they believe has compromised itself by reneging on anti-corruption bodies among other sensitive issues.

Coronavirus

Ukraine has registered 8,346 new Covid-19 cases and 178 fatalities in 24 hours.

Two more coronavirus deaths were registered in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The death toll has thus reached 57.

As of late March, 59% of coronavirus hospital beds in Ukraine have been occupied, Deputy Health Minister Iryna Mykychak has said at a press conference.

Donbas

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has commented on Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov's remark that a video conference on Donbas is being arranged between Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron: "Our position is nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Negotiations on settling the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict are held in the Normandy format with the participation of the leaders of the four states: Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia. We are confident that any progress in the key issues of peaceful settlement, above all in securing a full and comprehensive ceasefire, can be reached in full rather than limited composition."

Russia

Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko has described a statement by the Russian Science an Culture Centre in Kyiv about "Russian-Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko" as a petty act of provocation. He added he hoped that the National Security and Defence Council would consider closing down the office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Ukraine soon.

Elections

Dobropillya mayor Andriy Aksyonov has won the by-election in constituency No 50 in Donetsk Region. He will enter parliament to replace Ruslan Trebushkin who was elected Pokrovsk mayor in October.

Constitutional Court

The Constitutional Court will convene a special plenary session on 12 April due to the dismissal of judges Oleksandr Tupytskyy and Oleksandr Kasminin by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 27 March.

Incident

Six out of nine carriages of the Kyiv-Zaporizhzhya Intercity train got derailed a the Slavhorod station, 50 km from Zaporizhzhya. No-one was hurt.

Crime

Three individuals suspected of abducting and killing civil activist and volunteer Oleksandr Mandych (Tashkent) have been detained and charged, Kyiv's prosecutor's office has said.
