Artist gone
Famous Ukrainian artist and Odesa Art Museum director Oleksandr Roytburd died at 60 after a heavy disease.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his condolences. "In this position, Oleksandr Anatoliyovych proved by his own example that a museum can be made an art space that is interesting for a wide audience. You just need to put your sole into your business and not be afraid to experiment!" he said on Facebook.
Former premier dies
Kyiv bid farewell to the first head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), former prime minister, former defence minister and secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, Yevhen Marchuk. The 80-year-old respected intellectual died on 5 August.
Donbas
Contract serviceman Yaroslav Semenyaka (Konotop District, Sumy Region) was killed and two more servicemen were wounded as a result of six ceasefire violations by the Russian occupying troops on 7 August, the Joint Forces Operation has said.
Athlete under fire
Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Malyar has said she will meet an Olympic bronze winner and junior lieutenant of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, over her photo with Maria Lasitskene from Russia. The photo stirred indignant reaction in social media.

Smuggling
An army fighter was scrambled to intercept an An-2 used by smugglers who flew from Ukraine to Romania and back. Four smugglers were caught when they were trying to board a car.
Incident
The death toll in the mine explosion incident which happened in Pokrovske on 31 July has increased to six on 7-8 August. Four more miners are in hospital.
A 61-year-old man in Kryvyy Rih lost his leg as a result of grenade detonation, according to the local news website Vidkrytyy. Shortly before this, he demanded that he be let in the local mining mill while brandishing two grenades.
