As a result of repatriation activities, the bodies of 1,212 fallen Ukrainian defenders have been returned to Ukraine.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Among the returned defenders, the fallen are from:

  • Kursk Region;
  • Kharkiv Region;
  • Luhansk Region;
  • Donetsk Region;
  • Zaporizhzhya Region;
  • Kherson Region.

Law enforcement investigators, together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will identify the victims as soon as possible.

  • As a reminder, on Monday, 9 June, the first stage of the “all-for-all” exchange took place as part of the Istanbul agreements. Ukraine returned wounded and seriously injured prisoners of war of the Defence Forces from Russian captivity. This was to be followed by the exchange of 6,000 dead.
  • The exchange was the only agreement to which the Russians consented. This is the second such event following the meetings in Turkey. After the May round of talks, more than 1,000 Ukrainians returned home.
