Kryvy Rih mayor Kostyantyn Pavlov was found shot dead on the porch of his house in the village of Vilne in the city's suburbs, police have said. His body was found by an acquaintance. According to preliminary reports, the mayor committed a suicide. Pavlov, who represented the pro-Russian Opposition Platform-For Life party, won the mayor's seat this February.
Several hundred representatives of the far-right National Corps on 14 August came to the presidential office in Kyiv to protest against the arrest of several fellow members for racketeering. After police refused to let them through without inspecting, they started throwing stones, smoke bombs and other things at them. Tear gas was used.
Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyy promised criminal punishment to the protesters who injured eight police officers.
Bukvy news website journalist Oleksandr Kuzhelnyy was beaten after the protest outside the presidential office. Several people followed him and aggressively demanded that he erase photos of the event. Police are investigating the attack.
