The town of Vasylkiv, Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine remains under control of the Ukrainian forces after heavy fighting.

This information comes from the town’s Mayor Natalia Balasynovych, who was cited by Ukrayinska Pravda early on Saturday, February 26.

“The fighting is winding down at the moment. We can now safely say that Vasylkiv is quiet, and the horrible night has come to an end. After lengthy fighting, which left many people injured or dead, it is finally over. Nobody surrendered Vasylkiv,” says the town’s Mayor.

According to Balasynovych, the Ukrainian military bases and airfield in Vasylkiv first came under missile attack on Friday night, and enemy paratroopers were landing in the fields and forests near the town throughout the night.

“The situation was the most dire in our central Dekabrystiv Street, which saw the heaviest fighting. The entire street was on fire,” says Vasylkiv’s Mayor.

According to her, the town’s Territorial Defense Forces and the 40th brigade drove the enemy out of Vasylkiv together. A large amount of military hardware was urgently sent from Kyiv to help Vasylkiv.

At 7 o’clock in the morning, on February 26, an adviser to the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Mykhailo Podolyak reported that the situation on the entire territory of Ukraine was under control. The enemy has sent all its reserves to Kyiv, but the capital is successfully defending itself.

Ukrainian forces hold the borders of Kharkiv. At present, all approaches to the city are blocked, according to the Head of the Kharkiv Administration, Oleh Syniehubov.

As of the morning of February 26, the enemy’s losses were estimated at: 14 planes, 8 helicopters, 102 tanks, 536 armored combat vehicles, 15 cannons, and one Buk missile system.
